2005 Lake County Transportation Summit
On September 15, Lake County Partners, the College of Lake County, Lake County and the TMA of Lake Cook hosted the First Annual Lake County Transportation Summit. More than 210 residents; government, business, academic and civic leaders attended today's session, which was convened around the theme: "One Voice...One Transportation Future."
Transportation Leaders and practitioners from the Illinois Department of Transportation, Tollway Authority and Lake County Division of Transportation provided expert comment on the state of Lake County's Highway Transportation System. The transportation experts also discussed the status of IDOT, Tollway and LC DOT add-lanes projects and capacity additions and classified them in several "buckets" based on project readiness:
- Add lanes projects ready for construction funding
- Add lanes projects ready for final engineering funding
- Add lanes projects ready for planning funding
- A regional community bypass project
Elected officials and business leaders joined the transportation experts for a discussion of factors that are important to consider when prioritizing the add lanes projects:
- Traffic congestion mitigation
- Economic development impact
- Political attainability
Facilitated breakout sessions gave attendees an opportunity to learn more about the add lanes projects and to ask questions of the panelists about the factors for prioritization.
It is our intent to host the Second Annual Transportation Summit in September 2006 to celebrate our successes, revisit our priorities and establish the next year's Lake County Consensus Transportation Agenda for 2007.
Based on the polling taken at the summit, Lake County's 2006-07 Consensus Transportation agenda is as follows:
- Project we will work together to get construction funding for: US Highway 45 from IL route 137 to IL Route 120
- Project we will work together to get final engineering funding for: US Highway 45 from IL Route 120 to Washington St
- Project we will work together to secure planning funding for: US Highway 41 from Lake Cook Road to IL Route 137
- Project we will work together to secure Corridor Planning funding for: IL Route 120 bypass
