The Texas Transportation Commission has directed a fresh study of the idea of taxing miles driven, as a means of replenishing its highway fund, according to an article in Chron.com. Texas is not alone in this consideration - Oregon, for example, has a pilot project and other states are studying this as a fair means of taxing. Nationally, Transporation Secretary Ray LaHood has favored consideration of the miles driven tax, saying that the U. S. needs to think outside the box in terms of funding infrastructure. However, the Obama administration has not to date supported this proposal.
