The Chicago Tribune editorial page on December 14, 2009 encourages Illinois citizens to contact their legislators about the inappropriateness of video gaming profits as a source of capital for infrastructure improvements in the state.
The editorial cites the rising number of local and county governments that have banned video gaming from their jurisdictions. Currently, there are 50 government entities that have passed resolutions banning video gaming, and 14 more that are considering it.
The Tribune points out that it is likely that in January legislation will be introduced to limit the ability of local entities to continue to ban gaming, unless a clear voice is heard to find a new funding source.
