Fixing America's Surface Transportation (FAST) Act
The Fixing America’s Surface Transportation (FAST) Act is five-year legislation to improve the Nation’s surface transportation infrastructure, including our roads, bridges, transit systems, and rail transportation network. The bill reforms and strengthens transportation programs, refocuses on national priorities, provides long-term certainty and more flexibility for states and local governments, streamlines project approval processes, and maintains a strong commitment to safety. Lake County Board Chair Aaron Lawlor said, "The fast act is a huge step forward in advancing transportation issues in lake county. It is fully funded compared to its predecessor Map 21. It allows us to plan better for our future and target projects like the double tracking of the Milwaukee North line, replace powering switches that currently have to be flipped manually, and investing more in our mass transit system and our county and state highways, which are underdeveloped and need more resources."
